Elm Street Renovation
A sensitive renovation of a 1940s craftsman bungalow that preserves its historic character while introducing modern amenities and an open floor plan.
The Elm Street Renovation transforms a beloved but aging craftsman bungalow in Fayetteville’s historic Wilson Park neighborhood. The owners had lived in the home for fifteen years and wanted to modernize the kitchen, baths, and mechanical systems without losing the character that drew them to the house.
Preservation & Modernization
We maintained the original wood floors, trim profiles, and exterior siding while reconfiguring the interior to create an open kitchen-dining area. A new rear addition — carefully scaled to match the existing roofline — houses a sunlit family room and mudroom entry.
Kitchen & Living
The kitchen features custom walnut cabinetry, honed soapstone countertops, and a large island that serves as the heart of daily family life. Original built-in bookshelves in the living room were restored and refinished.
Energy Improvements
New insulation, high-performance windows, and a modern heat pump system dramatically improved the home’s comfort and efficiency while maintaining its authentic 1940s exterior appearance.
